The 'Bolt' Analogy

Have you ever seen a rocket launch, maybe in the movies, or on TV?  Did you know that 4 seconds before takeoff, all the main engines of the space shuttle are firing at full force? 

That’s why you see all of that fire and smoke and steam! 

But wait a minute:  if all of the engines are firing at full force, why isn’t the shuttle taking off?

Because it can't.
